Just a few steps away from the church of Alt St. Thomä is the church of Neu St. Thomä, a former monastery church of the Franciscans (1233), who founded their first monastery in Westfalen here.
Apart from the choir and the outer walls of the nave, the church fell victim to bombing during the Second World War, but was then rebuilt in its old form. However, the former Minorite church never had a bell tower. All but a few remains of the monastery buildings have now disappeared.
