Backpack packed, boots laced up? Looks like you’re ready to spend a physically active day exploring the natural beauty of Lake Möhnesee on foot. Choose from over 200 km of marked-out trails of various lengths, basically starting at your doorstep. The Arnsberger Wald nature park presents itself in all its beauty in the summer and fall, while its nature-reserve areas and field paths offer stunning views and fauna sightings in the spring and winter. The tours are right for every season.
Parking facilities are plentiful and offer ideal starting points for circular hikes. In Völlinghausen, you will find a wildlife park showcasing the local fauna, along with a romantic old bridge, the Kanzelbrücke. Or why not set out from Günne to explore the Heverarm & Hevesee nature reserve along the Heve river and lake, or from Neuhaus to wander along the perimeter of the Kyrillwald Forest. Each area has its own unique highlights to see and enjoy.
From atop the Haarstrang Ridge, catch a broad vista of the Soester Börde. Stop to admire the old religious shrines along the field paths, which crisscross broad swathes of pasture landscape like the ones around Kleiberg. Here, half-wild horses and long-horn cattle related to the “aurochs” graze. More experienced hikers will love the forest trail known as the Sauerland Waldroute, which wends its way from Iserlohn, past the Möhnetal reservoir and all the way to Marsberg, 240 kilometers away.
