Barrier-free fishing spot Möhnesee

On March 25, 2025, the new accessible fishing spot at Möhnesee was inaugurated. The project, which was supported by many stakeholders, represents a significant step forward in terms of inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities. The Ruhrverband and the municipality of Möhnesee have jointly taken an important step toward facilitating access to nature and recreational activities.

The accessible fishing spot, which covers an area of 6.00 m x 5.00 meters, is specifically designed to provide wheelchair users with a comfortable and safe fishing experience. Up to four people can fish at the same time, and an innovative railing allows both the fishing rod and the landing net to be handled comfortably and safely. The fishing spot’s location right next to a public parking lot with free parking spaces for people with disabilities ensures barrier-free access.

The project received financial support from the LEADER program of the Lippe-Möhnesee region. This support is a clear sign of the importance of accessibility and participation in recreational activities for all people, regardless of their individual abilities.
